PBs twisty take on the top five headlines of the day.
1. Telangana’s ruling TRS sweeps battle for Hyderabad – Rise of another regional party!
TRS of Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrasekhara Rao won 99 seats while Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) won 32 and swept the municipal polls. TDP of Andhra Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, which tied up with the BJP, won just 1 seat. The BJP won 4 seats and Congress 1.
Rise of another regional party. Are we going into an era of BJP dominance at national level, Congress relegated to third position and many strong regional parties in states which maintain no pact with BJP-Congress. Naveen Patnaik’s BJD, Mamata’s Trinamool, Jaya’s AIADMK, Mulayam / Maya’s SP /and BSP, Kejriwal’s AAP to name a few.
2. Drama inside Kerala Assembly over solar scam – Death knell for Oman Chandy!
Kerala assembly saw heated exchanges between UDF and LDF overt the solar scam. Achuthanandan stood up and said the government was ‘neck deep’ in corruption. LDF had met the Governor two days ago asking him to not deliver his customary address as the Chandy government was facing various corruption charges.
Elections due in April-May this year. This scam has provided boost to LDF chances which as per trend is expected to win this time. The solar scam is the nail in the coffin for Chandy govt. Only some sort of hobnobbing of Left with Congress in West Bengal could upset the game.
3. PDP-BJP impasse in Jammu and Kashmir – End of an opportunist alliance!
The PDP’s politics is fundamentally different from the BJP’s perspective on J&K. Still BJP went ahead and formed govt. with PDP some say for development and integration of the state some say just for sake of power.
Whatever the reason was honeymoon is over. Mehbooba is a hardliner vs her father Mufti. Time for BJP to build consensus on scrapping Article 370. The status of Hindus in Pakistan is infinitely worse than that of the Muslims in India. If still a section opposes, they have the freedom to chose their country and leave India.
4. Budget: Rs. 1.10L cr for Pay panel
In FY 2016-17 central government has to make provision for about Rs 1.10 lakh crore for implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations and One Rank One Pension (OROP) Scheme. This is a whopping 6.2% of our total plan and non plan expenditure of FY205-16. This needs to be compensated thru additional revenues or reduction of subsidies. More cess / taxes on the cards. Watch out…
5. Modi – One family not letting anyone rule: Is it so powerful?
Modi on Friday accused Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi of disrupting Parliament to avenge defeat in 2014 Lok Sabha polls and hence blocking the passage of Bills aimed at benefiting the poor.
Modi like Naidu has joined the crying baby chorus. Are they so powerful and you so rudderless? If you can’t manage two people how can you manage the country. History doesn’t appreciate rudderless leaders.
Pls ask Venkiah Naidu to focus his energy on negotiating with non-Congress parties and isolate Congress in the Rajya Sabha.
