Assam

Assam, a North Eastern state and sends 14 members to Lok Sabha (2.5%). Not a very critical state in the scheme of things, however, its largest N. Eastern state status makes it important. It has historically been a Congress stronghold with Traun Gogoi CM for the last 12 years. Regional party Asom Gana Parishad has also a strong presence but its strength has reduced significantly lately due to splits, head Prafulla Mahanta has been CM twice. It is part of NDA. BJP too has a decent presence. Other parties like Bodoland People’s Front (part of UPA) and All India United Democratic Front have also been formed recently and have a decent presence.
